ARE they Scientologists??

It really depends. If the person was living a double life, and duping you all along, would you say, "well, they aren't all bad?"

@user-ym1mk5mx9l Do you know anything about that case? He admitted wrongdoing in a sworn deposition in a civil suit, and STILL was not criminally prosecuted. When he was finally prosecuted years later, then yes, I agree the prosecutor introduced evidence that was prejudicial and should not have been introduced. Messy case. If you knew anything about that case, you'd know the real question is why is it SO hard to get a conviction? Or even a trial?

Then look into the case. Masterson is insisting the victims consented and that he did nothing wrong. Look into other things he said. There's a bigger picture here.

Because I would feel duped and betrayed? Because I don't want a Bill Cosby or an R Kelly as a coworker? This is not the same as welcoming back someone who has taken responsibility for his crimes and been rehabilitated. This pertains to cagey guys who got away with it.

@__Rob That's not what these letters are for. They are part of the presentencing investigation. He was found guilty. The issue is the appropriate sentence. They are supposed to begin with the premise that he did commit the crimes he was convicted of and tell the other side of his character, chance for swift rehabilitation, and so forth.
1
@__Rob That's just it. Most of the people reading the letter think Ashton is asserting Masterson is innocent. He has every right to believe whatever he thinks is most likely to be true. I respect that, but that's not the problem. You don't tell that to a judge after the verdict is in. You will notice the letters had no effect in court, but did provoke a backlash instead. Predictable.

@elisereynolds945 John Wayne Gacy did clown shows for hospitalized children. Ted Bundy worked on a crisis hotline.

@JTS-u3l Links are always shadowed, being too hard to monitor for TOS violations.

@elisereynolds945 Masterson is denying everything and has slandered the victims.

"The letters were first published by legal affairs reporter Meghann Cuniff. In them, Kutcher refers to Masterson as a “role model” and “extraordinarily honest,” adding, “he is among few people that I would trust to be alone with my son and daughter,” whom he shares with Kunis." Sounds more like he's hinting that Masterson is innocent.
1
The problem is that Masterson insists the relations were consensual and has on occasion denounced the victims.

I suggest you read the letters. Some parts hint that Masterson is innocent. I don't know about you, but I don't like being duped. If someone turns out to be an entirely different person in his secret life, well hidden from me, then he does not have a good character.
1
@user-dx1jb4zq9e Of course they are perfectly entitled to believe he is innocent, exactly as he claims to be. But that is not something you write to the judge in advance of sentencing. Writing a character reference in advance of sentencing presumes agreement with the verdict. Maybe that could be why the judge obviously discounted their letter?
1
@GlynDwr-d4h Wait, didn't you know why people write to the judge??
