@vnevala Of course Trump profitted off the back of the common man. Who do you think worked for him? What happened to those people when Trump filed his business bankruptcies?

@Varun-vv9mi They pushed Russiagate conspiracy theories to boost revenues as well. Their online comments pages were full of hysteria, with better vocabulary and spelling than Fox News comments. The NYT is not the paper it was twenty years ago. Look into Greenwald's critiques, which give carefully detailed and documented accounts of journalistic malpractice. Look into how NYT pushed Chris Hedges out, for refusing to toe the war mongering line. This is NOT an unimpeachable news source anymore. They recently misreported the terrorist story from France. Would you expect any NYC paper to DO such a thing?

It wasn't their fault. That doesn't mean it wasn't their task to deal with. If you're a passenger in a car on a sunny afternoon and a drunk driver hits you, it's not your fault. You're still the one who has to do the physical therapy. And if you're emotionally drained and demoralized, you have to work harder.

@orangeblock3792 P. S. Your language is your fault for sure. Shame on you. And (2) when someone laments something their parents or parents' generation did wrong, it is not an invitation to jump in and agree.
3
Once Hitchens started blathering about "Islamofascists" and calling for war in Iraq in his overweaning, pompous way, that ended it for me. Being so wrong about a war is not a small thing.
3
@orangeblock3792 That wasn't a metaphor, that was an analogy. Are you one of those people who blew off learning, too?
2
@Varun-vv9mi Why did they wrongly report on the murder of Samuel Paty, as I already noted? It was a comment to the story from a reader in France that corrected their glaring omissions. You didn't answer that, before condescending. How quaint of you.
2
@Varun-vv9mi You said I still "don't get it." You said that if I don't accept your misleading statements about the Mueller investigation as fact, then I "don't accept reality." Now you're flailing. That was too easy.
2
@chinothepony If you call them the pseudo-left, I could agree.

All of these are policy decisions, made to look like the operation of physical laws. The "virtual" economy, that spawns ad agency/spy agency multibillionaires, is very fragile and runs on massive government support combined with irresponsible deregulation. How did they make you think it was more real than a refrigerator, or indoor plumbing?

@JAMESBOND-ox3se No, we should either line up behind Orange Caligula or The Mummy, like the post above yours assumes. Because everything's going to be fine. We don't need to do anything about the race to the bottom. We don't need marginally competent people to lead the U.S. "We're number 1! We're number 1!" No fantasy there.

@tallking7777 Nothing is going to change until the dollar is threatened as the world's reserve currency. Then things will change rapidly. All of our deficits and our dwindling manufacturing base don't matter (I mean for real, they don't), until they do.

@tallking7777 I would never want any part of it. Anyone who can emigrate should start planning to. I'm being frank here. Violence in any form isn't the last thing on the list I'd envision -- it is not on the list at all. With all the mass shootings this country has had, weird, heavily armed cults, and now militias, not to mention the endemic level of crime and the fact that there are more guns than people, I don't know how anyone could think in such terms. I hope you're a plant, testing people, and not serious.

When someone tells you you're to blame for something you did not do, leave as quietly and unobtrusively as possible and never look back. That person could cause you grave harm one day.

@Varun-vv9mi P. S. Why did you think I was stupid?
1
@Varun-vv9mi Where did I suggest having an absolutist mentality? The NYT is not the paper it was twenty years ago. That is true. I still read it -- which is how I know about how it treated the death of Samuel Paty at the hands of terrorists. Its reporting of the college admissions scandal, by contrast, was exemplary. A lot of its Jeffrey Epstein reporting was well above the usual, but then fell flat.

@Ronniezim All true. There should not have been Biden campaign vetting of the sexual misconduct stories. Ask for comment, of course, not editorial suggestions, without saying "a campaign spokesperson strongly disagreed with this characterization," or some such.

@Varun-vv9mi I gave you a link which detailed every indictment and guilty plea arising from the Mueller investigation. And a quote. If you persist in believing there was some form of collusion, cooperation, or conspiracy, you must have more information than Mueller did, or considered actionable. I'm not saying it didn't happen. I'm saying The Story greatly outpaces the facts presented.

@Varun-vv9mi Do you see where we are? Now, during a pandemic, the mainstream media has lost the trust we need for it to have, to face this challenge. Do you see how dangerous this RATINGS GAME has turned out to be? Media is supposed to be more careful than it has been. In this instance, FOX has been the major offender by far. But do you see how hard it is to refute them, after imitating them, for ratings?
1
@Ronniezim I read the NYT, too, and consider them less bad than others, but let's not turn this into yet another lesser evil/race to the bottom. What needs to happen? Another war, based on a false premise, another Chris Hedges forced out? Another catastrophe comparable to COVID?

@Varun-vv9mi FWIW, I think Trump wanted to build in Russia. He was looking to make money, as were his cronies. Russia was having a building boom, and he wanted a piece of it. I think this was all about money all along. If Trump had succeeded in flipping Venezuela, little Jared would have been sitting on the board of a really big energy company. Purely my opinion. (Counterfactual as well, since he didn't succeed in either aim.) Does not belong in a major paper. LOL
