Dj Luminol Exactly. Of course corporations want to hire people in other countries, where they do not have to provide benefits. They are automatically less costly to hire. Health insurance is the biggest fear, and economic headwind, for people wanting to start their own business. And the pandemic has just destroyed thousands of small businesses! Please. Insurance pools are there for capital formation, to prop up investment bankers ("rent seekers," in Adam Smith's terms). They are not there for health coverage. This system has become insane.

Dj Luminol Of course. I always got a kick out of it when CHOMSKY would quote Smith "chapter and verse" to people who had no idea what he really said. Thanks for your response, and no, taking the burden of paternalistic medical care off the shoulders of employers and entrepreneurs is not socialism. So now, it's not just the pandemic, but an economy shedding jobs and not creating new ones for new graduates that is a huge problem. At least some of them want to try starting businesses, and are too old to be on Mom's insurance. And maybe Mom doesn't have insurance, either! (A 24-year-old could easily have parents on Medicare, after all. This has become crazy.)

People on Medicare are miserable all right. They wish they could be paying four-figure premiums each month and $2500 deductibles. That would prove how tough they are.

Current Medicare does allow enrollment after 65 for those fully covered by their employers. Once they retire or reduce their hours, they have a deadline for enrolling in Medicare (without penalty for enrollinng late). How come no one knows this?

Medicare? That's a problem?
