Gates buys the reputation he wants, that's why this is news now. He has done a lot of harm in many areas, because of his influence: to be precise, other foundations copycat what his does. They got away with helping Enron hide misdeeds for a very long time, by riding on their previous stellar reputation for conservative accounting. This tactic is common. If you ever studied white collar crime and white collar tort, you would know.
