  1. That is not a reason to include it as required reading on the curriculum in the primary grades. It is a matter of what is age appropriate for required reading. She is so right.

  2. Was it required viewing in 8th grade? I bet it wasn't in any film studies (public school) curriculum prior to college.

  3. Where do you start with Robbie? Kids in my rough grammar school read Penthouse in 5th grade. That does not mean Maus should be in the public school required reading curriculum. Kids really do go through a sensitive period, and then . . . they outgrow it. "Age appropriate" is real. Give the stragglers breathing room.
