If they forced them to maintain residential properties the way that homeowners are required to, they would find their profit margin to be less attractive. If they JUST enforced the laws that exist, including all the tenant protections, which they could do NOW, we'd have a smaller problem. But corporations don't have to follow the rules the rest of us do. They are super people.

@kerwinbrown4180 LOL, because we all could control what was imposed on us in 2000-01, 2008-09, 2020 . . . just mentioning the highlights. I'm sure the best ones are saints, and have to be. But I know what I'm talking about when I say that, in general, it molds a certain kind of personality. So do many fields. Mainstream media, advertising, politics . . . prosecutors who cash in by defending the richest white-collar and celebrity criminals all come to mind -- especially media/advertising. You are what you do.

@dnah02 Well, I am taking my first vacation in almost 30 years in October. I go to restaurants at someone else's bidding a few times a year. I'm non-Western, not lily white, either. For context only, no big message intended.

@dnah02 Well, I've had family tragedies and responsibilities, so that was the reason. As a child, we saved up for yearly vacations, always road trips, and took them. The rest of the year, both parents worked 50 hour weeks. I'm the canary in the coal mine; when I hear people say that the next generation won't have it as good as their parents, well, that was true of two generations for us. I haven't been on a plane in this century. I cook everything I eat, every day. It's not that big of a deal; lots of other countries are affordable. I don't like having to leave, I would prefer that it be my choice on my timetable but oh well. I'm hardly alone. I still have the illusion (?) that something marvelous could happen at any moment to turn things around. I'll stick to that for a while longer.

It's not evident how Robby earns his money. He's not very good at what he does. He spouts the same slogans over and over. That's not ethics or politics. That's advertising. With the right hair, it doesn't matter much what goes on inside his head?

Try buying something that doesn't wear out fast. Women's shoes that are high quality, acceptable in business, and don't hurt your feet cost anywhere from $350 to $900 where I live, and it's not on a coast. Shoes that cost $150 are usually athletic and wear out within two years. The life of a washing machine is about 10 years. It used to be 25.

Robby seems to take pride in promoting absurdity. He looks like a two-year-old saying "you can't make me!!" As my late mother used to say, "alas, we have to eat every day." Affluence and the attitudes that come with it played a role in climate change; if everyone lived American-style, we'd need several more planets. Europe has a great quality of life and longer lifespans, and their per capita energy use is significantly lower than ours.
