Claudia is a minor. Minors shouldn't even have these accounts. They aren't prepared for an instantly global and virtually perpetual record of their YOUNG lives that they can never control, and never shed. Giving them this platform is abusing them -- for MONEY. The psychological effects are already apparent. But as long as tech stocks go up . . .

@therealcirclea762 Marx had a very devoted and loving family. He denounced capitalism for turning family ties into just another transaction to exploit.

@therealcirclea762 I know of no culture where kids are egged on to hate their parents as much as they are in America, and that is purely designed to turn them into atomistic units of production and consumption, with no defenses. They must be subject to the Market, and the Market is the sole arbiter of value. Your value is your market value. This is a feature of unbridled capitalism itself. Why do you think Krystal sees through it so well?

@MrHootiedean Okay, I believe you. But Williamson did not "shame an unstable girl into silence," either. Read her whole tweet again. Moreover, who is anyone to judge Claudia as "unstable?" It was just an impression, fine, based on facts we know . . . But you see, that's the whole point of PRIVATE counseling, etc.? This is not the business of the world to weigh in.

Twitter was the only way to reach her parents? GIVE ME A BREAK. What did kids do before anti-social media wormed its way into everyone's brains? Claudia is a minor. Minors shouldn't even have these accounts. They aren't prepared for an instantly global and virtually perpetual record of their YOUNG lives that they can never control or shed. Giving them this platform is abusing them -- for MONEY.

That wasn't the point. I have no opinion on her emancipation, and hope that what is best for her will be what is decided. Krystal is right about the media and playing this out in public. You DO know that juvenile family court records are sealed, FOR A REASON?
3
Speak out to whom? If you go to a psychiatrist, a counselor, or a lawyer, all of those are sworn to secrecy. Those are confidential relationships. Not friggin' TWITTER.
1
@AriBelleDean Moreover, no one is "shaming" Claudia. But a lot of people are misrepresenting what Williamson said. Go watch it again. Just the first minute of the video is all that is necessary. See what she actually said. Twitter is exploiting kids. Kids are seduced into creating a global "permanent record" they can never escape, with strangers all over the place judging them, who have no business weighing in. This has already caused teenage depression rates to soar.
1
@AriBelleDean Nobody should feel comfortable speaking out on social media! This is treacherous stuff. Using it well is hard. It is easy to be misunderstood, then smeared and shunned.

Juvenile family court records are sealed for a reason.
1
singerliljermz It has.
1
@HalfMaester1 You don't know that she's being abused.
1
@HalfMaester1 Exactly the contrary. People egging Claudia on in the new media are exploiting her. She is a minor. I don't have any opinion on her emancipation except to hope that if she needs to be emancipated, she will be. What she says to a counselor, psychiatrist, or lawyer is strictly confidential. And family court records are almost always sealed. THAT is how it should go. And reread what Williamson said. You are totally misrepresenting it. YOU are the one attacking people, and in America today, somehow everybody is claiming that someone else is doing exactly what they themselves are doing. Used to be only Trump and his minions were that dim.
1
@HalfMaester1 "You spent your day attacking a depressed child." How sick are you??
1
@EMJean99 Okay, you're right about everything. No. Really. I see that now.
1
But that isn't the real point in any case. Of course Claudia has a right to seek emancipation. Juvenile family court records are sealed for a reason.
1
REREAD the Williamson tweet. It does not say what YOU claim it said. There was NO pressure to stick to anyone, at all.
1
@akikotaku9670 You did not quote the whole thing. And family court records are sealed, which is presumably where a petition for emancipation is filed. Counselors, psychiatrists, lawyers -- ALL are strictly confidential relationships. What part of that seems wrong to you? How does "handle family issues privately" = "sticking with an abuser?" Trick question, it doesn't.
1
You're an adult. It's your choice. And if this child were to be emancipated, the family court record would be sealed to protect her, and she could live her own life without the whole world voicing an opinion on the details, or taking sides.
1
@SushiLady That doesn't mean the next step should be twitter. What did kids do before social media?
1
@Rebecca-zw4pm Before social media they were silenced? The average kid had more access to a competent social worker, for free, decades ago, when there was proper funding for social services. A high school friend whose mother was hospitalized and whose father beat him checked himself into an orphanage near school. The new media has you mesmerized. Creating a global "permanent record" a person can never leave behind is horrifyingly dangerous for kids, and has already caused depression rates to spike. Kids are less independent now than they were before, when two or three roommates working minimum wage paid the rent.
1
@Rebecca-zw4pm I'm not surprised you think this way. You're out of touch if you don't know what social media has done to them -- providing FAKE friends, actual permanent records (we used to laugh when teachers threatened us with that), and little twitter mobs that turn on a person at the drop of a hat. At the same time that they are deprived of necessities, like a college education they can pay for with a summer job, or an apartment in any big city they want, and that three roommates together can easily afford on minimum wage. Even wholesome food is expensive, now. I'm not dismissing it at all. I just think the problem is in a totally different place than you do. Kids have been made more dependent by technology, especially on the empty-headed opinions of others. If this child's parents weren't famous, would twitter help her? Or cause her to lose her next job offer?
1
@Rebecca-zw4pm I didn't assume anything. You said I seemed "out of touch," and stated "dismissive" of a young person in pain. Why? You had no basis to say that, plus it wasn't very nice. Social media is treacherous. That's why. That's how it usually functions.
1
@EMJean99 No worries. It has to be your way. I know that part.
1
Not very many people read it. They are already claiming it says things it does not say. So that they can have the thrill of taking sides.
