  4. In my state, a senior cannot get SSI (supplemental income) if he has more than $2000 in savings -- UNLESS he was disabled before age 26 and continuously since then. Then he can have up to $100,000. OTOH, a minimum wage worker generally qualifies for food stamps. It's a fascinating system.
