In 2020, the private schools around me, all Catholic in my neighborhood, opened in the fall, established the school routine, closed for a long Christmas break and had some online instruction, were cleaned in depth, and then welcomed the kids back. IT WAS PERFECT. Public schools never reopened that year.

  4. Private schools reopened, including Catholic schools whose students are working class. They opened in the fall, established a solid routine, then closed for a long time over Christmas break and had online classes for a time. Schools were cleaned in the meantime. Then they reopened.

  9.  @josewilliams6094  I have to admit that again, I don't know what you're referring to. By generalizing, I assume in good faith that you mean several practices that are risky. I don't say there are none, I simply don't know which ones you have in mind. For the record, because masks help somewhat, they should be used in junior high and high school, and parents should not be resisting such reasonable, albeit inconvenient, practices.

  10.  @josewilliams6094  For the record, in 2020, the private schools around me, all working-class Catholic in my neighborhood, opened in the fall, established the school routine, closed for a long Christmas break and had some online instruction while infection rates were high, then were cleaned in depth and welcomed the kids back. Masks indoors but not outdoors were mandatory. It worked out fine. Sweden is another example of where it worked, with fewer precautions, but I prefer the Catholic school approach. (I'm agnostic, by the way, and was never Catholic.)
