@seanronalds9213 The person you replied to spoke of health care and higher education in "the rest of the developed world." If you have numbers and sources showing that international exchange students come to the US for a bachelor's degree (or higher) from the developed world, you are welcome to share. I do not believe in esoteric knowledge. Document your claims. I also have some experience in the area, as well as knowledge of what constitutes evidence - and as for welcoming the largest number of students, it is the per capita numbers that count. Again, where did you say these students are from? The reason you need to specify is not only that the original post expressly cited the DEVELOPED world, which is reason enough, but also because you interposed your comment as evidence that our highly privatised, exhorbitantly expensive system is the most sought-after, and hence the best. Sought after by whom? By people in developed countries who pay the equivalent of $300 to $1200 in annual fees for college, and zero tuition?

@Vanderearden Ivies, Stanford, MIT, CalTech, Berkeley are phenomenal, and you do learn things there that you cannot count on having presented to you everywhere, but you are right about the central reason why people want their children to go to those schools. It is not for the education, or at least not for that in the first place. The cat is out of the bag.

@seanronalds9213 My best guess would be that you don't know very much about other school systems around the world, or what they're doing. I do, because I actually went to one, and met countless foreign students there as well. Lived experience and all that.

@seanronalds9213 The "rest of the world" doesn't send their children here to study, nor does "the rest of the world" come here to live. This has become a new talking point. Look at the actual numbers of immigrants, where they come from, and what they do and how they fare once here. I am sure you have not looked. You repeat something you've heard, as though it were a sound argument.
