  1. In France, the firefighters joined the strikes and protected demonstrators against the police, for WEEKS. Look up "pompiers contre la police." The line was crossed, Macron's hands are tied now. We are not even close to that. We have two "sides" -- whether a juvenile is a "white supremacist," based on his Facebook page(!), or whether he has a Constitutional Right to a Kalashnikov. IOW, almost everyone is crazy here. What do you expect?

  2. @xxzenyaxx "Socialist" parties in Europe are comparable to the Democrats of the '60s. IOW, they are far from being radicals. Market fetishism has less power in other countries in proportion to the lesser benefit their people draw from globalization. The French, for example, do not believe what you believe. They don't have the same history, or world view, or desire to become an American protectorate to further enrich their (much smaller) elites.

  3. I read them online to see what they have to say, not to believe what they have to say. Occasionally they cover a story quite well. Rare, but it happens.

  4.  @fortusvictus8297  Adam Smith supported the maintenance of "the commons," and warned against allowing the rentier class to create monopolies and extract wealth without earning it, which Smith considered a concerted subversion of the mechanism of the Invisible Hand, and the only real threat to free markets. IOW, we aren't even up to the standards of Adam Smith, much less . . . Modern day "commons" are clean air, clean water, universal public education and universal health care. Once you have that, and reach the age of adulthood, all the rest is up to you. Like I said, we aren't even up to that level. Pfft.
