If my money is not going to go to universal, PUBLIC education, then I don't want to pay taxes to support it. I have no idea why my money should go to any private or privatized scheme of education where I have no way to exert democratic control, and no voice. Nor should I have one. The local Catholic and other private schools don't have to ask me what I think. And I don't have to pay their bills.

If we are going to unfund PUBLIC education, then I want my cut back for me. I'll spend it on night school. I'm not going to fund charters, private, and all that, where there is no possibility of democratic control --- where as a matter of principle, I have no voice, nor should I. But then you can't have my money, honey.

@marksaulnier2222 I will not pay for private schools. The average taxpayer has no say in what is taught there, who is admitted, or what their policies are -- nor should they. Your competition story does not impress me. "We've all seen this movie."

@marksaulnier2222 Education gravely deteriorated the day it become "a business." (What do you think Title IX procedures are, for example, but modeled after the private workplace, which has no First Amendment rights, and does have at-will employment?)

@alanlee67 What reality is that? That I should pay taxes for someone else's private education? I agree all tuition, at every level, should be fully tax deductible, but that's as far as I'll go. No one is taking money directly from me to give to a private school, where admission is not a right, universal education is not a goal, and I have no voice at all.

@snowbunny783 If you can afford private, or home school, you have the power. So . . . you want the money. Er, no. I support all tuition being tax deductible, and all scholarships tax free. That's it.
