@drewskij2175 "Revisionist" history is a dog whistle. It is intended to shut down discussion and warn people about what they better say, or else. All political factions pull this stunt.

@drewskij2175 Except that we revise our views of history as new information comes to light, just as we revise our views of current events as new information comes to light. There's nothing pseudo about it. That is what historians do. The word "revisionist" is used as a signal to oppose whatever it is that is labeled that way, and to silence people -- no different from the way a whole host of words are used now: fascist, racist, anti-Semite, homophobe, transphobe, communist, Putin puppet, Assad apologist, tankie, anti-vaxxer, wow I've barely scratched the surface.

@drewskij2175 The commentary in this video, for what it's worth, critiqued it -- pointing out flaws and strengths. Good pedagogy for grades K-12 means sorting those out before making it part of the standard curriculum. A college class, where people already know the history of the period, and know something about historiography, can delve into contemporary materials like this at the same time as they come out. You can't do that in 6th grade. The teachers themselves don't have the time to go to a seminar to discuss its merits, or how best to present it. So, what about senior year high school? Should different viewpoints be presented and compared? In the best schools they are. If I were teaching 12th grade history, I would.

What is the aim of education? Who is achieving that aim, and how are they going about it? We haven't answered these questions. That's why it's a mess.
