@johnlennon6790 Can you be serious? The REST of the Western world, at least those in non-English speaking countries, has had tuition-free university for most of their existence. A job following graduation is the minimum. I expect more from universities.

It's exhilarating to see Americans take the bait and fight amongst themselves. Maybe the European left and the BRICS and their allies can take some control over their lives after all. Maybe the world is changing.

@johnlennon6790 Property ownership is a matter of convention. Why anyone should believe that universal K through 12 education should be tuition-free, but education for doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers, accountants, everyone involved in management and logistics and every other essential function in modern society should not only not be free but impossible to afford requires some explaining.

@johnlennon6790 You are an example of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing, to your assessment of what you actually know. There are no perfectly elastic demand curves, and no workforce that is not a market participant as consumers. Hence there is no corporation that can pass all of its tax burden onto the consumer.

Well, there was a time when a summer job paid a year of in-state tuition and fees. The middle and lower middle classes were creating real competition for the rich. Why am I shocked, shocked that had to end?
