  3. Find out how the number of elective abortions was slashed under Mitterrand. If a woman indicated that money was a motive, she got a packet of information concerning all the benefits she and her future child qualified for, and was asked go home and to think it over. (In any case, there were no same-day abortions.) It was the position of the French Republic that abortion should never be motivated by economic distress.
