@josearaujo8616 Okay, even assuming that's true, that wasn't the question. You said tangible things and material resources. The US may not be making tangible things, but . . . How many phones and computers have you pitched in the last 25 years?

@josearaujo8616 Anyway, I don't agree that we have new forms of value creation. I think we are creating more behavioral addictions, more hidden means of risk shifting and, above all, more efficient means of rent extraction, while the traditional rents (housing and the like, which are literal necessities) are spinning out of control, to the point where more and more people can no longer afford them. If we shared equally in the growing productivity of labor, we would all have shorter work weeks and work lives in the manufacturing and distribution sectors. At that point, more ambitious people could change careers between 40 and 50, and work another 20 years at a more reasonable pace. If they entered management, they would actually know something. Those who wanted to retire and live modestly could, but that would not mean having luxuries. It would mean no wolf at the door. And no billionaires setting up their own pseudo-countries, either. As matters stand, we are on the precipice.

@josearaujo8616 That's not possible. In 1950, there were 2,500,000,000 people on earth. Today, there are more than three times that number, and EVERYONE in the West has larger homes and more stuff in them, and things like major appliances have a far shorter life. Someone is making this very tangible stuff, and transporting it across larger distances.

Globally, the manufacturing workforce was put at nearly 500 million, with nearly 20% of them in China (just under 100 million). Did the US have 100 million working in manufacturing in 1950? Er . . . No. Not possible.

@josearaujo8616 The global manufacturing workforce is probably somewhat below 480 million; in any event, below half a billion. Of those, almost 100 million are in China alone. In 1950, the US did not have a manufacturing sector that employed 100 million people.

The one with the shouting. 🤣 Now, to get down to the nitty gritty . . . Why were you repeating propaganda? If you watch shows like this one, you must know better. Or you can easily figure out on your own that something we are being told literally does not add up. I mean, in the domain of arithmetic.

@josearaujo8616 As a matter of fact, the US manufacturing sector peaked in terms of total people employed during . . . Jimmy Carter. That late. The minimum wage in terms of purchasing power peaked in the late 1960s, nearly a decade earlier. In around 1979, about 20 million Americans had a manufacturing job. I look stuff up. :)

The real nightmare is the degree to which people who are doing well are utterly blind to what is happening. Even this interviewer is blind to it. Under feudalism, the aristocracy needed an ornate, well-thought-out religious superstructure to render them complacent. That's no longer necessary. A few catchy slogans and a willingness to believe is sufficient.
