No, you don't want to attempt to pass any change to the Constitution for this. Look up how that's done, and you'll know why. Congress could try to craft a federal statute, pursuant to the 14th Amendment. A Texas plaintiff could attempt to sue under the 14th and the 13th Amendments. Roe v. Wade came out of Texas.

@ponokealii That's not the issue. You can make the argument, you can't amend the Constitution. Not the same thing. We never got an Equal Rights Amendment through, remember?

@ponokealii Yes, you could, and argue that involuntary pregnancy is servitude, since it makes use of your very body against your will (though no one can force anyone to raise the child once it's born). But would that argument prove too much? Wouldn't it allow abortion at any time, even in the 9th month of pregnancy? At that point, of course, no doctor would perform one.

@ponokealii Involuntary pregnancy could very well result from a loving relationship, and does. Anyway, muting you from my notifications. I don't know what the problem is, but I bet it's hard to pronounce. You're right about everything. Leave it at that, then.

@ponokealii No one HAS to raise an unwanted child. They can relinquish custody to the other parent, to theit family or to the family of the other parent, or put the child up for adoption. So that argument in favor of abortion will not work. It is totally counterfactual. But you're right. Muted.

@ponokealii To compare caring for an unwanted child who you can hand over to the care of others any time you want to American chattel slavery has got to be a new low. (But if I continued to listen, I bet I'd hear worse.)
