Matt likes his insurance. That's nice.

WHEN do you think health care for all will BE "real," if not during a pandemic in an employment-based health insurance system?
92
Well, Matt, maybe COVID isn't "real?" If M4A is just a slogan, then we must not be in an epidemic.
37
@JuxJacy I bet he wouldn't explain because he couldn't. :D
16
Didn't surprise me. Saw through him.

Matt wasn't alone in pointing out that CARES was a massive wealth transfer upward. The only thing I agreed with is that people need to be able to explain what that Act did and how. Matt is right about that, and he's right that it means having knowledge of finance. That was the one clearly true thing Matt said, and he did not sound persuasive when he said it. Yeesh.
11
Not at all. This was no surprise. Don't let that one bother you.

"Progressives got weakened over time." What time period?
7
@PikachooUpYou Yeah!!

@CedrickObama A national health care program like Medicare that does not discriminate based on age is necessary, and its necessity has never been more obvious than during a pandemic when people are losing their employment, and HENCE their health insurance. Its also false that no one pointed out what the CARES Act did -- that it pushed vast wealth upward. Yet again.

@jean6453 Nah. People over 65 are dead, mostly.
4
@BarredRocks Thanks! I was wondering . . . /s

M4A is more efficient than any other health insurance. Its overhead is many multiples lower. Of course changing its scale to cover everyone requires thought. I guess our representatives are used to scaring up gobs of money and doing what the lobbyists ask.
3
@Vanderearden For sure, I understood.

Question: An uninsured person gets a severe reaction from the COVID vaccine and goes to the emergency room. Now what happens?
2
Notice how ALL the pseudo-progressive centrists act like there is no COVID, except when small businesses have to close?

@CedrickObama Worthwhile: https://youtu.be/64A7A8QWDNc

I'm so sorry.
1
It's terrible. My God.
1
@glenjo0 I know. But to add such stress on top of illness is criminal. When do you most need to save your money, and feel secure, but when you're sick?
1
@MaxwellsDemon9 Nope. https://youtu.be/64A7A8QWDNc

@sgspecialfaded This one's on every thread, denouncing M4A. On mine, s/he played the ingenue, lacking in sophisticated vocabulary and logic. Don't know what's in it for them. Once they see they are getting no traction, with their points demolished, they turn up elsewhere, needling someone else.
1
@Yo Momma Your dispute with me was factual and interpretative. It was not logical. Books!
1
@tedmaloof234 LOL, love it.
1
@MaxwellsDemon9 And this suggests WHOOSH.
1
Not to be missed: https://youtu.be/64A7A8QWDNc The logic, impeccable.
1
@Yo Momma Oh give me a break. Don't impute ignorance to others. It looks like you must have started with yourself.
1
@Yo Momma You know what IS hard? Getting the jerks in Congress to WORK. What do you think their job IS? "Wonky." Give me a break. It's called drafting legislation. They should get busy now. Or isn't this pandemic real? We'll have to wait for a bigger one. Dore and Kulinski and Krystal Ball and every real progressive is asking Pelosi for a COMMITMENT to fashion this legislation, and then put it on the agenda. Otherwise, she shouldn't be Speaker. The speakership is not a show job.
1
@Yo Momma Clear now?
1
@Yo Momma What did you think they were calling for? A vote on a slogan, in January? Is that what Matt's nonsense made you think? That's the picture he painted in your mind? Well then, we know who misled you.
1
@Yo Momma Whoosh.
1
@Yo Momma Did you think there was zero starting point for productive discussion? Umm . . . Yeah, there is plenty: https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2020/03/politics/medicare-for-all-annotated/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/policy-2020/medicare-for-all/

In case posts with links are shadowed, for TOS reasons (hard to monitor; understandable), I've linked to Krystal Ball's editorial today, and two analyses of specific proposals for M4A legislation, a very solid starting point for the committees to WORK on. No, kids, it's not a slogan.
1
@Maryam0 Yeah, excellent thread.
