College algebra was a remedial class when I went. It was good enough to get me ready for calculus in one semester.

Jobs could not have been more wrong. The Market gave us social media addicts. It gave us fast food addicts. And it made a tiny, tiny number of people mind-bogglingly rich -- for addicting the rest. Oh, and by the way, find out what kind of parent Jobs was.

His logic is what got us here. Education does not have "customers." But it sure has created a bunch, for Apple.

@Hgh38 Exactly.

@michellelowe15 Who are the best students everywhere? Immigrants' children. What do their mothers do? Work REALLY hard, sometimes two jobs. Overtime whenever offered. I can't believe this nonsense still pulls you in. Nowhere in the world where children learn well does anyone talk about education having "customers." If the college "customers" want Gender Studies or Advanced Cheerleading, or How to Be an Influencer, rather than Calculus and Classics, then what will be taught? Compare MIT's freshman class: MOST are from immigrant backgrounds. WHY do you think that is? Imagine, some of them weren't even on Facebook before age 18.

@wayneantoniazzi2706 The late, great state universities (Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas, Virginia, Illinois, UCLA, Berkeley) certainly did care, and were essentially tuition-free. A summer job paid the tuition bill for a year. The kids who worked their way through were a different people. They also studied. After all, they paid for it.

There was a first literate generation created somehow. How much were the nonliterate parents involved with that? They were busy farming. Farming is a 24-hour job. Living things die if you go off and do other stuff.

Edited for spelling.

You are truly funny!

@h.mandelene3279 Truth.

@LDwestwood1986 The major tech companies are pushing people out who don't display those "virtues." Their HR departments are often behind the push.

@_baller Give me a break. People get paid big money to trot out this pablum, then to create a faux controversy over it, and write the same old editorial over and over again, zero originality, zero thought, no solutions. No wonder kids won't study. They want to be day traders, youtubers, influencers, or rock stars. Welcome to the world former Hari Krishna couch surfer Steve Jobs helped create. You didn't notice his little smirk on this video?

At baller: oh stop 🤣🤣🤣

@kevinwetsch5209 So this was really an advanced class then.

@kanicman No, that isn't why. But keep it up. I'm not sorry to see saner societies succeed in educating their youth where this sheer nonsense fails.

This was rank nonsense. Easy to please his customers, I see.

It's called school shootings. You've heard of them, I assume.

@michellelowe15 Thank you for saying that. . . . And isn't that crazy, really? As in, what is going on??

Education does not have "customers." See who the top students in the public schools are, and see who the top students at MIT are. We all know: the children of immigrants. Our mothers work. The Market is what has given us social media addiction.
