@totoroben But this is exactly what Fauci sought to avoid by doctoring emails in a way that legitimate search terms from a well-founded request for information would not work. FOIA has no analogy to a search warrant. Private actors with a right to certain information generated by public officials, in the course of the activities of those officials that legitimately concern the public, are the ones making the request. Does anyone actually think (I mean this hypothetically) that a public health official could work behind the scenes to impose universal acceptance of a medicine he knows to be flawed, and hide evidence of that knowledge? The minute he starts working to get it approved and to get people to use it, he has an obligation to tell everything he knows about it, good and bad -- assuming that his job didn't require him to share that information in the first place. But if he engages to push it, he absolutely cannot hide information, "for our own good" or anyone else's. No one is pushing wiretaps. We rely on sworn testimony or audio recordings made and kept in the course of business for that information.
