What part of Western Europe gets 40% of its natural gas from Russia is lost on you? Replacing 10% of a vital natural resource in economies made fragile over the last 2 years (and really over this entire century; see, e.g., 2001; 2008-09) would be a struggle. We're talking four times that. 2022 may be a watershed year.

The demand is for America to arm Ukraine even more than it has, to increase hostilities. There is nothing arrogant about questioning that. I'm no fan of Mearsheimer's, but you need to listen to him. Librarie Tropiques' channel has excerpted key videos of his, for a French audience (subtitled, not dubbed). The extracts are short and to the point.

@jobo8281 You believe untrained civilians should be given heavy arms in a war zone? An untrained person with a gun in Cincinnati risks having it taken from him by a well-practiced intruder, much less an ordinary person in a war zone. Furthermore, I don't know what reports you've heard, but Russians are not going house to house like Americans did in Iraq. Stick to make-up and yoga.

@jobo8281 Some of Mearsheimer's presentations predate the current war by 8 to 10 years. Hence they cannot be the same as what you've heard everywhere since February 24.

@ClownCarCoup I have a suggestion. Look up articles that predate the current conflict, including by people like Lev Golinkin, who wholeheartedly opposes Putin and the Russian invasion. See what those people said about the Nazi infiltration of the Ukrainian armed forces.
