@boostinggtirtime They know about the risk of immune enhancement in mRNA immunotherapy. They did engineer the vaccines to avoid that, and tested for that. Look, there is NO drug that has killed absolutely no one. None. Never. MRNA has been studied for at least 20 years, in the hope of curing metastatic cancer with it. This issue of massive "inflammation" is not some new thing.

@ezerasurfr Not only that, but all the COVID vaccines are working exactly as they should: the extremely rare cases of COVID after full immunization are very mild, and none have been deadly. That shows the unwanted immune enhancement is not happening. If it were, someone would have rapidly progressing, deadly COVID after full vaccination. Literally no one does.

Yes, Kyle, there have been people hospitalized or who died from the vaccine -- though the vaccines appear to be exceptionally safe, much safer than many vaccines. Every drug has killed someone, literally every last one. The vaccines do prevent deadly COVID, that is correct. We also need a time frame. How long does immunity last? Will any vaccine prevent serious COVID in 99%+ of people for one to two years? That's what I consider effective. I can accept getting an annual flu shot and a COVID shot, sure. Do we know yet?

There is nothing unreasonable about being hesitant to get a drug not FDA approved, but only Authorized for Emergency Use (AEU). Being against AEU, or worse yet against all vaccination, is very unreasonable and irresponsible.

Bottom line, I don't believe in shaming anyone who hesitates based on real evidence and real concerns. I do believe in fighting vaccine misinformation. Fight hard against that.

@ASheepNoMore I suggest you look more closely. The survival rate is much higher in people under 40, but in men 50 and over it is already worse. Did you know that? In women who are normal weight with no underlying issues, the virus becomes dangerous after 70. Then there are aftereffects from having COVID. My friend's brother developed blood clots from COVID, including in his lungs, and he was in excellent health. Women get less sick, but are sick longer, with greater risk of depression and cognitive problems. This is true. It's not their imagination, there is a BIG sex difference in response to COVID and to COVID vaccines across the board. I have questions, I do hesitate pending full FDA approval, and am paying attention, but I am not opposed to vaccination. We get flu shots, and we KNOW that COVID is at least ten times more dangerous, easily.

@nuclearcatbaby1131 Nope, nowhere near that number of possible deaths, and even fewer confirmed -- maybe a handful, if that. And they are thinking allergy to PEG is the reason, not the mRNA.

@boostinggtirtime You're right that full review is still pending. I should have said that so far, the immune enhancement issue looks very, very good, really great, based on peer-reviewed studies, not comments on newscasts made by one person.

I was happy that links to peer-reviewed medical journals have been permitted here. Those are often shadowed as well, being too hard to monitor (links will contain links, etc., it can go on and on for a long time).

Flu vaccine is often not a perfect match, but almost always makes the flu into a mild disease. That happened to me, but had to stay home anyway so that I wouldn't infect all the unvaccinated people.

@tylerhibbs7086 mRNA has been studied for much longer than that, and the issue of triggering an overresponse in the immune system was something they knew about all along. THIS vaccine is emergency use authorization only; find out what that means. No, it is not "anti-science" to hesitate. It is anti-science to oppose the vaccine, to oppose its EUA, and to speculate about dire long-term effects which we have no reason to suspect.

Last Man Standing I read the abstracts of articles in peer-reviewed journals. I find the strong pushing, pro- and (even worse) anti-vaccine to be dubious. It doesn't make me want to get one prior to FDA approval, though I may. (I got Prevnar 13 as soon as it was recommended for everyone, not just seniors, based on studies done in Europe.) I also want to know more about the effects of the probable repeated boosters that it's starting to look like we'll need. This whole emergency was politicized.

There are very rare reported fatalities, "possible/likely" fatalities in fact, not confirmed, with the mRNA vaccines, and they appear to be generally safer than many vaccines, so far.

@jontomas2271 There are a handful of marijuana deaths that doctors could not explain any other way. Super rare, no question. Comparable to eating contest deaths, drinking too much water, etc., stuff like that.

@jontomas2271 I found several. Links are generally shadowed. These were all cardiac arrhythmias in people with preexisting frailties, but no heart attack or previous serious arrhythmias, and really a lot of marijuana, smoked and ingested. I can understand why you might reject them. Then, a few psychotic breaks in people already predisposed to psychosis, and they got killed because of the psychotic episode (apparently accidental, not suicides). I understand why you might not count those, either. Possible high driving deaths, also less clear.

@jontomas2271 I got the information from a non-hysterical, medical website with no apparent agenda. I think it should NEVER have been illegal, the reefer wars were pure persecution, it should make zero difference now whether a person ever smoked it, for security clearance or any other reason, and . . . it doesn't interest me as an activity, either. No dog in fight.

@msheart2 There has been better research since I wrote that post, including evidence that a natural infection produces better immunity than the current vaccines do, and even some evidence that recent infection by another class of coronaviruses, such as those that cause severe colds, creates some immunity as well. Mutations could be a problem, however. They are a problem for the rhinoviruses. A person could catch five different rhinovirus colds in a matter of a few months. Apparently, coronaviruses are not like that, but just what they can do is still unclear. I said there was a lot we don't know. What's coming to light is changing the picture.

@Truth NeverDies Right, and people have died from aspirin. Drugs have also had unexpected positive side effects. Look up beta blockers, for instance. (Less risk of invasive breast cancer in some users of some types, less risk of cardiovascular disease overall in some users that is not otherwise explained, etc. Even less risk of PTSD after trauma, such as a car crash. Look it up.)

@Truth NeverDies Sure. Accutane, for acne, is one. Drugs with abuse potential are often banned elsewhere. That is the most common category, includes ritalin, sleeping medications, etc. Sometimes travelers with valid US prescriptions need to be warned not to carry them and seek substitutes. Also, other countries approve drugs that the FDA bans.

@Truth NeverDies Did you know there are drugs with beneficial side effects that were unexpected? That is also where off-label use of well-known medicines with a long track record comes in, which has saved lives.

@ravendarkjolls4028 No, but animal studies, using animals with rapid life cycles, will give us a lot of information fast. About long-term effects. We'll know a lot by next year, even more by 2025.

@ravendarkjolls4028 I know animal studies are not definitive, and cannot be analogized to people perfectly. But they do provide information. By the most extreme logic, we would need a generation of humans to have a complete life cycle, and check their kids for epigenetic effects. Then we would know. I, for one, want to know about the test animals and their offspring next year. Lots of information there. I also want to know about the need and safety of boosters. That worries me more. What if mRNA recipients can't have boosters, or must have mRNA boosters every time, or who knows? This could get complicated. (I know! Implanted microchips will solve it!! /s)

@Truth NeverDies One dose of a beta blocker has prevented severe PTSD in shooting survivors. Just one example. Flu vaccine against one type B flu virus gives good resistance to other, different type B flu viruses. Type A is trickier. Prevnar 13 given to adults makes the senior pneumonia vaccine given later work better. It's not just bad news on side effects.

@TheSachingm Just an observation. You say you avoid a safer shot because it's optional. Well, the COVID vaccines are not mandatory, either. I am not at all a vaccine sceptic. I've asked for more vaccines than I have gotten (notably meningitis, which they insisted I didn't need). I just know this vaccine is EUA, not fully approved, and that the emergency has been politicized on all fronts. Not a pretty picture.

You said, verbatim: "I've never even taken any optional shots like flu shots." But the COVID vaccine is optional. In fact it is both optional, like flu, and unapproved, unlike flu. But you did take it. Flu also may be more deadly than COVID for people under 25. Many flu outbreaks have killed very young children, up through young adults, and we know flu shots can protect others, not just the person who takes them (though that is not always the case). COVID is not a highly deadly disease in most people. It is much more deadly than the flu overall, but it does not rise to being highly deadly. Other diseases with these mortality rates by age are considered highly treatable. Of course, COVID is highly contagious -- hence the real rub.

@TheSachingm Arguing to "concussions?" My arguments are sound. Unfortunately, the media insists that we all become borderline hysterical, their ratings having collapsed since Caligula left office -- hence the need for a substitute. I'm not swayed by that. I can disengage. In any event, no one who is not a doctor should be advocating for or against a vaccine that is not yet FDA approved. You don't know what conditions some person may have that makes the vaccine unsuitable for them. UK's health service is recommending caution in administering the Astra-Zeneca vaccine to people with prior severe allegic reactions, for example. Here, people who have had COVID are often told to wait 90 before taking any vaccine. My conclusions are fine. You're just not used to reasoning. You are steeped in ADVERTISING. Tip: advertising is what keeps getting repeated over and over; reasoning is what rarely sounds familiar. What sounds familiar is comfortable and cosy. Good luck with that.
