I'm trilingual now, have a knowledge of two other languages, and have no memory of being monolingual. There's no way American anything could indoctrinate me. (For example, I didn't fall for this video.) The US bombed where my parents were from, thus immunizing me from their nonsense. I suspect you don't know too many people like me. (Or you resent the Chinese kids or something.) 😂 You stepped in it this time. Maybe what you said is true of the boring crowd you know. Maybe you should try branching out. But then again, we might not want you to.

  10. This is such nonsense. You don't have to close off your creativity to make grades. Once you get a clear picture of what is going on, earning As is easy. With the rest of your time, you move on to other things. You come to realize that your projects matter more than any teacher's, AND you know which teachers to avoid. That's good training, as everyone will have to answer to someone at least some of the time. Figure it out in school, where the stakes are lower.

Everyone cares more about their pet theory than they do about understanding what went wrong and fixing it. Bad actors profit from culture wars and do nothing for you. When you go down that road, you become easy to ignore. The BRICS aren't sitting around.

"School is bad for boys, forcing them to sit still when they need to move, etc." So explain why, when given the choice, they sit still even longer. Etc. "Screens are addictive." Er, . . . Yeah. We have a problem that senseless devotion to pet theories and online come-backs isn't going to solve. In the meantime, the world is moving on, faster than we realize. (BTW, did you ever notice how many math video channels are from Africa?)

Find a new school that doesn't give you such a grim view of what it's doing to your child. That's the parents' job. You'll notice Weinstein was straight Ivy League through PhD. Look up how he makes his money now. It couldn't be less creative.

  28. More "successful," or making more money? Twerking videos and pet tricks make vastly more money than math tutorial videos. I'm not making light of money, not in the least. But once you can reach a certain threshold without undue stress, it's what you're doing that matters. I'd rather do something real.

This is most obvious in math: a mathematical truth is universal, but each person comes to an understanding of it on their own, following a unique path. This is because each brain is unique, literally. The standard may not need to change, but flexibility in meeting it has got to be part of every subject and lesson. I wonder, has Common Core made schools worse? I say that because many of its proponents are known to be rigid people (thinking of Bill Gates).

  31. @nunyabidness3075  Wherever a teacher is required to submit grades for students, some form of protection against retaliation is needed -- but so is some way to appeal an unfair grade. I don't claim that should be tenure, however. I think you're basically right. It's obvious.

  34. For people with deep talents, money isn't everything. It's a necessity, and too often an annoyance. No one did anything truly important for the money.
