  1.  @monkeystank5241  It's called Nixon's Southern Strategy, which became the central strategy of the contemporary Republican Party. Of course, this changed its character. The Republican Party was once a party of self-reliant, self-disciplined Yankee types, where people shunned ostentation and mistrusted huge fortunes unless they were the result of obvious ability and decades of hard word -- self-made, of course. These were farmers and shop keepers, not B-grade movie or reality show clowns. Oh the good old days . . .
