Change in management. Those with senority are often targetted, because they are making "too much" money. It happens all the time. The 19-year career IS the answer. Gosh, are most people are like the beautiful lady in this video? Do they think companies "mean well," and just need to be made aware? Good grief, no.

Countries with tuition-free university and universal health often have criminal penalties against such harassment, for the obvious, unsentimental reason that these societies need for everyone to be productive, rather than on disability and under psychiatric care at public expense. Sorry if I put that baldly, I don't mean it to sound insensitive, but these things go together. You invest in people, you protect your investment. Some have real compassion, others make sure not to commit crimes. So, they all behave.

@aprilk141 Are you joking? We have no general workplace harassment law, much less criminal penalties. Do you know the barriers to filing under Title VII? You have to go to the EEOC first and obtain a right-to-sue letter, and the statute of limitations is shorter than for most torts. The procedural hurdles are huge. You need the money for a GOOD lawyer --- but those who have the money are the people least likely to be harassed, because the bullies know they can fight back.

@aprilk141 Correct. They have the war chest. I know more about it than I wish I did. I represented a first grader with pediatric cancer in a civil rights/public education case, administrative, for free. The first arbitrator who gave us a complete victory (which I found strange) was overruled and soon quit. The public school system discriminated against a child with cancer and his mother. No, not the only such case I know of. It takes serious money to challenge injustice, almost always. The family moved, the child is fine by the way.

A lawsuit was filed. That means there was some measure of investigation and the family, by their attorney, has witnesses prepared to testify under oath to the facts alleged. But you're right that nothing has been proved yet. Still, it's a better foundation than most of what people hear on the news and believe.

@peoplenewstoday Please stop polluting these boards with your special axe to grind. It's graceless. A fine human being is dead. Blocked.

@peoplenewstoday Wrong. Retaliating against anyone who reports Title VII violations using proper channels is, at least in principle, fully protected by federal law. The problem is money. You need serious money to enforce your rights.
