Well, how many are willing to admit that the demise of the Soviet Union was, on balance, a bad thing? Because it was.

25:51 Chris was wise to ask exactly how these private equity bankers are able to "load [a company] up with debt." Exactly how leverage allows the bankers to double and triple their profits practically overnight is not clear. It needs to be explained, so that the listeners could explain it in turn. Without this level of understanding, ordinary people will just revert to "personal responsibility," or worse, "positivity" mantras --- or, they will believe Tucker or Elon or Donald Trump will save us. That's what's happening.

@klauskinski5969 Reagan gutted mathematics education for a reason. This is true.

@weslee511 We don't have fractional reserve banking any more. We have less. I just checked. The reserve requirement has been ZERO since early March 2020. Source: The Federal Reserve.

@JuanEchevarria-mz2dn Sadly, you are mostly right.

@doreekaplan2589 I never dwell on the things I know. It's the things that affect me but that I do not understand that occupy my mind. Hence, the pandemic. For example. That was on my mind.

Look, this is more serious than you're making it, not less.

@starloszelson4541 A movement to force Congress to deal with it would be very difficult to launch, even assuming you could inform and organize people. They just trade insider stock tips and investigate each other.

@xqt39a Fractional reserve banking, where the reserve requirement is zero: even assuming FRB works, how could it possibly work when the reserve requirement is set at zero? 🤡🌎 at this point???

Let's be honest: 50 years ago, the top four quintiles had a decent life and a real shot at becoming rich. It was still an unjust society, but materially, 80% had a fairly decent material existence. Today, at most 10% are truly well off and fairly stable in their standard of living. They have more luxury than anyone had 50 or 60 years ago, but even they are not as secure as we once were.
