  6. Two things: first, this is a very harsh, very competitive society, and it's hard to know how to build real character strength in a child, especially a teenage girl. Second, when people give parenting advice, whether it be to employ more gentleness or tougher discipline, it might not be well intentioned. They might want their kid to outdo yours. They are not interested in giving you good advice.
