  1. I thought security watches the cameras and intervenes right outside the door. I know many petty theft cases are confronted, or at least were, prior to the pandemic. But clerks are not supposed to be held responsible ever.

  2. Once someone is fleeing with property, that is true. If you can intercept them before they act, or if they hurt a living thing (person, or service animal, etc.), then you certainly can act to prevent them or to stop them after they hurt someone.
