  4. @andrewcool8101  How do you know that the person banging on your door and shouting "sheriff" actually is the sheriff? Anyone can bark "sheriff." He shouldn't have opened the door at all. That he did shows consciousness of innocence and basic trust of others. He made the mistake of thinking others are upstanding because he was.

  10.  @0_P.E.  Well, you have a point. The problem is when someone comes to your door and insists that they are the cops. If they are, then calling the cops will cause them to cool it. This happened to me.

He opened the door because he had only consciousness of innocence on his own part. He opened the door to evil because he was good. I didn't, because I am appropriately jaded.

  18. @cujokila  Do you have some interest in perpetuating the erroneous belief that you "have to" open the door to cops? Or that you "should?" Or that it's "the right thing to do?" Or that "only guilty people" refuse to open the door? When cops banged on my door like they wanted to break it down, I called the cops. That's how I found out it was the cops who were banging. I never did open. They left. The excuse was "report of domestic disturbance." This happened after 1 a.m. --- when I just happened to be working on a sensitive civil rights case. Coincidence? Possibly. Or maybe not. I'll never know.
