  1. After the US bombed where my family is from, I haven't cared about its leaders or its ruling class. But we can still reflect upon the death of a person as a person. Memento mori. Russell Brand actually had some very perceptive and compassionate remarks. To pause and think about those things seems like the better response to me, for now. After the period of mourning and funeral, that is a very different matter.

  3. While the British are in mourning, and the US observes September 11th, the French are celebrating La Fête de l'Humanité. Strange to note that.
