A typical side effect of puberty blockers and transsex hormones is permanent sterilization. To oppose this for minors is not unreasonable. I can't believe that a society with a long, ugly history of eugenics isn't suspicious of puberty blockers in teens, just because they are not "gender-typical." So what if they aren't? Should only cheerleaders and football players have kids? This has gotten absurd. Choice means the choice to be a birth parent someday. Some people decide to do that in their 30s and 40s, and had no idea they would want to when they were only 16.

@theoneandonlyroelle In ADULTHOOD. It is an adult choice. I hope.

@evanadamson8576 The research you cite concerning treatment of early-onset puberty is in children age 6 or younger, who then proceed to have puberty at the usual age. Is it controversial that puberty is necessary to reach biological maturity, and biological maturity is necessary to have a choice to birth children? Really? "We need more research."

@ivetagashparova9805 Garbage. These days, people who have never used hormones, much less blocked their puberty, and never had an STD nevertheless have fertility problems. And more and more kids have ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, etc. Just how much do you plan to techno-medicalize vulnerable KIDS?? How big of a risk with their future are you willing to take? And by the way, suppose Eric wants to wear dresses and be called Elise, and Brittney wants to get a crewcut and wear combat boots and be called Bret. Do you see a reason to start hormones? Why? What's the big deal? I don't see a problem. Let everyone do what they want, without a new wave of adult hysteria and dangerous drugging.

@EpicVideoMaster11 Fertility issues are common as it is. Passing through puberty is necessary for sexual maturation, and sexual maturation is necessary for reproduction, and for sexual pleasure as well. This is news? Really?? I suspect more and more that this is the new, hypertechnological version of Puritanism, if not eugenics. Eugenics by the back door in a few people's minds, undoubtedly. (Plus they get credit for being "progressive.")

@BadgerMcblasty THANK YOU

@badgermcblasty3334 Thanks, I guess I didn't realize that. The last culture war excess of this nature that I remember was the attack against First Amendment- protected erotic speech by Dworkin and MacKinnon. These come in waves, and this one is mind-boggling. D & M were simply too extreme, not stone-cold crazy.

@user-zy4wv7yx1z Children have no such urges. That is the point. How can children know what that will feel like in 10, 12, or 15 years? They don't and they can't. Therefore, informed consent is impossible. But you know that. You are counting on the Puritan Sickness to sweep away the truth. Blocked and reported.

@theoneandonlyroelle Parenthood is an adult choice. Pro or con.
1
@theoneandonlyroelle It can happen, or it's a choice? A choice you impose before 18?? Or a choice you preserve, so that it's there, for 18 to 45 and beyond. For the person to decide.
