As an avid aviator, I would posit that the Russian Fighter Jet pilots on approaching drone, have to make up their mind, whether this is a booby trapped drone or just an unarmed surveillance drone. From WW2 experience with the V1 rockets; the debris from the exploding V1 rocket could itself taken down the defending plane. In the light of this, the pilots did well to quickly innovate and use the dumping of fuel to disable the drone, and avoid being downed itself and thus a gift of a massive propaganda victory for the Zelensky Azov Nazi Axis
