For the first time since the cheap energy North Sea gas boom of the 60's and 70's, we now know the Political seats of EU Brussels Politicians and Civil Service of the industrialised "West" was and always has been depended on affordable "cheap" energy as was since WW2. Washington has largely wasted its bountiful natural energy resources and reserves and this will get worse with all the proxy wars Washington is prosecuting worldwide which are ultimately energy fuelled, and so naturally Russian has to take up the slack. Hence EU politicians will change from being obligates of Washington to obligates of Moscow and they haven't woken up to this natural phenomenon of entropy as yet.

The exceptional Wisdom is that NATO was never going to allow Ukraine in its present fascist form state into the EU except as cannon fodder in a “balance sheet war” for Washington and London's “off balance sheet expenditures”. A point of reflection and inflection of globalism was when Margret Thatcher blinked, at the Falkland War, when she realised that Britain either has to bow to Brussels or Washington. Margret Thatcher Oil Baroness chose Ronald Reaganomics and with North Sea Oil and Gas, to create the Petro USD/Sterling Hegemon currency .
