I've used Ventoy for a couple of years; it's great software. Had zero interactions with its community + mostly just want the easiest tool to boot all the distros.đ¤ˇââ

 @Thiesi I've always yolo'ed it ... but that's a rather good idea!

Wait ... how do people mispronounce 'Debian'!? I thought that /ËdÉbiÉn/ was the generally-agreed-upon way?

So many of these arguments are just false dilemmas / needless tribalism / porque no los dos cases ... I regularly use Emacs and Vim and VSCode and about a dozen other editors for specific things. (Fun fact, you could just use dd for all your editing needs: After all, you're just poking bytes around.) You almost never have to choose exactly one tool. It's not a zero-sum game.

Strictly-business question: Is Minnesota a large enough market that companies won't simply ... stop selling in the state (i.e., market exit) to avoid compliance?
2
 @VeronicaExplains Google (at least for a while (?)) pulled the plug in China because they weren't willing to comply with local laws ... and people repairing things seems like it'd get in the way of selling more planned-obsolete crap. (In case nonobvious, I totally hope that you're right, though ... Right to repair is awesome + so are youuuuu!)

This is pretty neato ... Yeah, I can use `dd` ... but sometimes doing 'easy mode' is nicer.
2
 @theroyalaustralian Fun facts: Reporting bugs works better when you say what the expected/observed behaviours are and provide repro steps ... and don't do it in the comments section of a YT vid đ¤Śââď¸

I'm ~10sec in ... but ... I'd be keen to watch a version of this video that is identical ... except that it IS written by AI.

How does dumping work for carts that have non-ROM chips -- the FX, for instance?
1
 @cmcm711 But, reading data from ROM chips isn't the same as somehow gaining the ability to emulate a co-processor or potentially-more-exotic hardware ... I guess what I'm getting at is: In disc-based systems, yes, the game is purely data ... but in cartridge-based systems I could solder whatever the heck I want onto the PCB ...

Fulfilling all the memes: I use Arch btw ... Ah, what I prefer about it include: 1. Packages actually get updated/aren't crusty and ancient. 2. I prefer `pacman`, and it doesn't complain about not having a stable CLI (like `apt` does) in automation/scripts. 3. AUR has approximately every package ever (rather than having to use those derpy PPAs to get everything that Debian forgot to include). 4. Arch Wiki. ymmv đ¤ˇââ

TTY for life, gangstas. F yo GUI.

Like, you don't 'need the terminal a little bit'; you ONLY need the terminal.

I'd be curious for a video answering: Why does anyone use RPM Linux? (In my brain, it's 'the corporate, business-y' sort of distro ... but, while I understand the trade-offs betw Deb and Arch quite well, I don't really know why anyone would want RHEL or Fedora.)
1
Or, you could just use a TTY.

Fascinating. I usually do similar use cases by getting the data CSV-ified and piping into Visidata.

These days, we have ChatGPT to RTFM for us. Mostly sincere -- I still use the Arch wiki, but I wanted to do a derpy Bash thing (involving trapping signals and sending some other signals to specific PIDs), and ChatGPT wrote a first pass + I adapted it to my use case.

Woah, I've never used Vim with Qwerty ... It'd never occurred to me that HJKL are nearby one another on that layout ... Mind blown.
1
To avoid being cryptic: I learnt to type on Qwerty, but I switched to Dvorak years ago (at which point I basically forgot how to type Qwerty) ... and only learnt Vim since then ... and mostly type on mechanical boards where I've mapped the keys and Dvoraked the caps.

Mine, in fact, does have an 'Any' key ... and a 'Fun' key, as well. Buy better keyboards.

Text-based config also allows versioning and diffing. The commandline is more compositional and re-usable than GUI silliness. How do I i configure ssh? With Vim. How do I configure cron? With Vim. How do I configure Vim? With Vim.

Woah! Ur awesome ... I've installed Arch 'the old way' heaps of times, but archinstall makes it so, so much more pleasant!

 @univera1111 archinstall is $0 ...
