lol, imagine thinking that things are 'free' just because you didn't pay monetarily ...

'What could have saved money in the long term was too expensive to develop.' ... This, kiddies, is why we cannot have nice things.

Literally this.

It's an awesome win for free/open source ... To be fair, though, it doesn't really compete directly with any Adobe product; it's more in the same space as Autodesk's stuff (3ds and Maya).

If only the Shuttle could have been lifted onto the pad by snatchblocks, eh?

I'm, ship your film to/from your destination? This isn't rocket science. I'm a weirdo in different ways, but you can't expect normie-optimised systems to care about you 🤷♀️
3
I'd love to know who actually finds it reassuring. I'm sure that there are normie idiots who do ... but nobody I interact with.

Gods use inexplicable magic; humans use mathematics, science, and engineering to make incremental progress.

@drac124 They give no shits about drugs. Border security/ICE in the States might, but security/TSA don't care
2
It's not that surprising: Compute / storage / bandwidth all become cheaper over time as tech advances.

@robob4465 Yep. And what's more unfortunate is that appearing secure doesn't imply actual security.
1
Nasa's manipulating you all! Wake up, sheeple! Glass dome in the sky! Space is fake! lmao
1
Have you ever used an Electron app? They suck.
1
You do realise that they control their website that sells lifetime subs ... and can disable that as an option if they've sold the max number that they're willing to ... right?
1
@Gamah1991 Ah, can't say; I mostly listen but don't watch. Assuming that all subs would convert to lifetime is ... dubious!
1
Odd argument you're making there: If everyone paid Netflix a large, one-time fee ... they'd have ZERO incentive to maintain quality.

Airports don't pay for any of this. Are you daft?!?
1
I'm going to henceforth say 'unbiblical' when I mean 'umbilical'. Since I'm not posting it on YT, I bet nobody will ever call me on it.
1
What evidence is there that the airport monetisies security theatre? My understanding is that it's a net loss for them
1
Airports don't own or control any of this.
1
really, really, really long trunks
1
It's amazing how many hard problems can be solved by caching ... and how many hard problems cache invalidation creates.
1
Digital sensors are unaffected.
1
Oh, great! Maybe we'll be able to dispense with the security-theatre bullshit one of these days!

Making & testing hypersonic planes, I should imagine!?
1
Ship your film?! This isn't rocket science.

1) Not everyone is going to buy a lifetime membership. 2) I suspect that somebody's thought through those trade-offs quite carefully ... and they'll stop selling lifetime memberships when they've raised ... whatever number they're trying to raise for current expansion. 3) They're trading 0% equity, which is a better deal than any VC would give them.
1
Then ... tough titties!? All investment involves risk.
1
If only you could control the playback speed ... oh ... wait ...
1
Starts with 14.4k!? Wat!? Teletypes were doing like 45baud in the 1950s.
