It's an awesome win for free/open source ... To be fair, though, it doesn't really compete directly with any Adobe product; it's more in the same space as Autodesk's stuff (3ds and Maya).

You do realise that they control their website that sells lifetime subs ... and can disable that as an option if they've sold the max number that they're willing to ... right?

Odd argument you're making there: If everyone paid Netflix a large, one-time fee ... they'd have ZERO incentive to maintain quality.

1) Not everyone is going to buy a lifetime membership. 2) I suspect that somebody's thought through those trade-offs quite carefully ... and they'll stop selling lifetime memberships when they've raised ... whatever number they're trying to raise for current expansion. 3) They're trading 0% equity, which is a better deal than any VC would give them.
