  1. My employees are salaried. Nobody tracks how many hours anybody's working -- we employ adults who are assumed to be responsible for themselves and their choices. As long as people are doing good work, I'd rather that they spend time with their families, on their hobbies, and travelling. Partially, this is because I care about them as people; honestly, though, this is primarily because this leads to better retention and long-term productivity -- aligned incentives are a beautiful thing.

  2. Sounds like people who have a dysfunctional relationship to their alienated work. Find a company -- or start your own -- that doesn't suck.
