  1. In the U.S., I've never heard a distinction in the use of the word 'black' / 'Black' to refer specifically to descendants of enslaved people -- someone who just pitched up from Ghana or Nigeria or Senegal would also be so described.

  4. Hot take: The problem isn't race as a concept, per se; rather, it's collective identity / 'identity categories', full stop. Individuals are more than the sum of the arbitrary characteristics ... 'My people' are people who care about the same things that I do, not people who happen to have green skin or are reptiles.
