@Default78334 I would love to pay for cabin bags on legacy carriers to avoid boarding delays due to the inexperienced-traveller dipshits who try to lug battleship-sized bags aboard flights.

Every aspect of using AirBnb (as a 'guest', at least) is just an enormous pain in the backside: Do the owners have creepy cameras in the house? Where the hell is extra toilet paper? What are the logistics of getting/returning the keys? It's got all the problems of being at home and none of the benefits ... and all of the problems of being at a hotel and none of the benefits.

@tongpoo8985 Depends what you're optimising for -- there are, I'm told, people who would prefer a predictable experience to a better one ... I suppose these people must exist for these very-average-looking chain restaurants to exist ... but I'm glad that I don't know any of those people.

How do Americans have so many words for how to cook eggs?!???? It's truly bewildering.

So, you suck at your business because you don't have any competitors!?

I kind of want to go to Western Union and send myself $1000 as some sort of recreational / educational exercise ... although, given what I've heard in this video, I'd be concerned that they'd be in crap neighbourhoods.

I'm ridiculously confused by their pricing: Sending between North America and Europe is way way cheaper (almost a factor of 10) than sending within the U.S. (Edit: I suppose they're hiding additional margin in a really poor USD<->EUR exchange rate?)

Holy shit! An American who can say 'Adidas' correctly!

CASM is 'cost per available seat mile' ... I believe you said something involving 'square miles'.

Surely, there are merchant fees, no? I don't pay to toss everything that I buy on my Amex ... but merchants pay (and, ultimately, people who pay with cash subsidise perks that I get).

@WoodsRules Sure, but it's a really sorry excuse for a CEO to make ... especially publicly!

If you want to send money to North Korea to support the Beloved Leader, WU's not your guy, it seems ...

@drabberfrog That's not quite true. It's deltas in share price (and possibly dividends) that investors care about ... increasing market share via low-cost / high-volume might be one way to accomplish that, but certainly not the only one. (i.e., low cost to people who have butts in seats is not directly a thing that investors / markets have incentive to care about)

possibly the most annoying voice I've ever heard😖

Yep. Wendover did a decent vid about this a couple of years back.

I enjoy shopping for food; I do not enjoy doing minimum-wage clerk labour at no cost.

So, I've always wondered about SWAs 'free' (read: included) checked bags: SW's model is partially based on quick turn-arounds / number of legs that they can fly per plane per day ... and I suspect that encouraging passengers to check bags speeds the boarding process ... presumably somebody did the maths that that (+ loyalty) is a net win, even at rev loss from checked-bag fees.
