The flickering screens, though ... Did no direct-capture cards exist!? It looks like someone pointed a camera at the monitor and didn't sync the frame rate to the refresh rate.
1
Nothing sus here ... just a 'graphic of a baboon' in memory!?
1
19:39 How nice, b.s. PowerPoint-style 'multimedia presentations' that should never have existed.
1
I mean, ask most people now to explain the Internet ... and, at best, they'll give you some incredibly-superficial description and probably have no idea what the difference between the Web and the Internet is ... People still think that hackers can steal their passwords on public wifi if they don't use the VPN their favourite 'influencer' recommends ... and don't know the difference between DNS and TLS and HTTP and TCP. It's basically 'magic' to most people.
1
How was their screencap tech so dreadfully flickery!?
1
What the heck was a 'typewriter-style keyboard'!?
1
Protip: Don't squirt too quickly ... or on the wrong part of the page.
1
You actually use a printer monthly!? For what?
1
Doug Englebart invented all this shit in like 1467.
1
Same comb-over, same hood, it's all good! And if you don't know ... now you know ...
1
'That's what the kids say.' 🤦‍♀🤦‍♀🤦‍♀
1
Expectations certainly were lower back in the day: I can process SEVERAL HUNDRED rows of data.
1
Or, you could just use Vim on a TTY.
1
Here's hoping it'll be more than 1fps by then ...
1
@lawrencedoliveiro9104 That's right. Reject all that silly GUI crap and run Ed in a TTY.
1
TFW your company is named 'Diablo' but you don't know how to pronounce the word.
1
I mean, to be fair, middle-aged men with combovers do not then or now talk about RGB builds.
1
Win RT certainly was ... reduced.
1
It's pretty much the stupidest name ever.
1
@TheRedRaven_ We still don't!? Flat Earthers are a fringe minority that can be safely ignored.
1
Dedicated 'fan cards' were a thing!? I 100% didn't remember that.
1
In this 'writing software' video: No software is written.
1
Greetings from the future where symbolic AI is essentially dead.
1
Mein Fuhrer, I can walk!!!!!!!!!
1
Except that now it's basically unnecessary?
1
 @pvtglarson1 How ... old-timey / boomery.
1
@pvtglarson1 Do you have fax machines, as well!? 💀
1
@pvtglarson1 Haven't seen one in decades but ... aren't all fax machines printers?! What else would they do with the images ...
1
That hard disc must have looked microscopic compared to the ones on minicomputers from just a few years earlier.
1
Nothing says 'fun' like 'enterprise spreadsheet computing'.
1
 @maxxdahl6062 Well, then, mission accomplished.
1
@maxxdahl6062 I mean text editors, dumb terminals, and kernels sound like way more fun than all that graphical crap 🤷‍♀️
1
Protip: Baboon.
1
Our STT is so good all you have to do is talk like a robot to use it!
1
It's 'The Soul Guardians' ... There's text at the bottom of the player; this isn't rocket science.
1
Hahaha, I bet those are those derpy glasses that are meant to self-darken / lighten ... which never ever worked back in the '80s.
1
Yet, Scheme compilers (e.g., Chez) have done it.
1
@alexanderfreeman I'm not quite sure what you mean ... it's open source ... go inspect the implementation if you find my claims dubious?
1
Nothing like watching those progressive jpgs loading over 30sec.
1
I'm not quite sure that they understood what 'online' meant.
1
Taking something that you could just read ... and turning it into a thing that you have to access over a voice call is the most-boomer tech imaginable.
1
@gblargg Well, my 5G is way faster ... but it's also way more than $65.
1
So, um, when am I going to be able to get those molecular computers to repair my brain!?
1
Fun fact: DLLs are horrible. Anything involving 'dynamic' anything delays problems that could have been caught statically / at compile time ... until runtime: Why have devs solve probs that you can foist on end users!?
1
The build quality of those machines feels about 100x better than the modern disposables. The downside, though, is that they're the size of aircraft carriers.
1
It's actually terrible; you'll get way better bandwidth with a cable, even 20whatever yrs later.
1
Or you could have just used Vim!?
