  1. That's not what was said. Snitching can be bad because of how it is used. Someone who has committed serious crimes can get out of punishment entirely if they're willing to snitch. Or someone who has committed a minor regulatory offense that otherwise would not be prosecuted at all can be forced into a situation that costs their life. Do you believe that the penalty for smoking pot with a friend should be death? It isn't illegal anymore, it hasn't been illegal in many states for a long time. Should the police be allowed to coerce someone into snitching because there were caught smoking pot? Do you think that is an appropriate punishment? Does the punishment fit the crime in your view? There is a lack of oversight. The police can effectively coerce vulnerable people based on minor crimes that would otherwise not be prosecuted into putting themselves at grave risk. The goal of the justice system is justice. There is no justice when someone loses their life as a result of a minor offense. Likewise, it is not justice when someone who has committed serious crimes, crimes that threaten our democracy, can avoid any punishment by snitching.
