Sabine, it isn't safety or slowness, it's cost and the profit profile that makes more nuclear objectionable. We can get 3 times as much capacity for our money much quicker, and of a kind that is repairable overnight on a micro level, not macro giants down for months of repair with no output!! Namely solar, wind, and hydro, with pumped hydro and battery storage!! And it's ready to install and is perfected today!! And no bomb material concerns! And no nobility of rich assholes, and they are the only ones who can front that kind of money, but who are ready to overcharge us for their power and grift all our money from us to buy yachts and planes, limos and mansions, and steal our democracy with their right-wing fascist servants who serve them in Congress to funnel our nation's wealth to the rich and prevent the rest of us from ever having nice things, like healthcare, education, or homeless food and housing and food for starving children!! Shame on you!!! You have obscured the real issue with detailed bullshit!!

All said, I'm not nearly as concerned about nuclear safety as I am for two other factors, the time till it can affect/prevent climate change, and the cost per kW-hr. Building the required reactors may take 30 years, too long for preventing the worst of climate change, which can persist then for centuries. But a war-time-like footing for expanding wind and solar can give us most of our needed power in ten years. On top of that, wind and solar cost 4-5 TIMES LESS per kW-hr, and that IS what really amplifies the reason for wind and solar to a sure thing. And reactors have to be built and owned by rich greedy people, who may decide to double your price for energy when they want a new yacht or plane or mansion. Whereas solar is private, it is yours, and a wind turbine can be owned by a neighborhood, yours. And power "on demand" is NOT NEARLY as important as power "AT ALL"!! If wind and solar is intermittent you can now control your washer and dryer with computers and program them to do it whenever power becomes available. You can retain enough power in a few batteries, or your electric car battery, to have LED lighting and run small appliances and entertainment and tele-computing for evening, night and morning. Your car gets charged at night when the wind turbines get the night winds. Home heating is only a matter of thermal solar, thermal mass, and insulation.
