First problem with thorium is that it is not that much more available than uranium, and when they run through the world's uranium, they will still have to do the job of making renewables work, which is the only hope for the long run for humanity. Second problem is that ANY nuclear is 4-5 times more expensive per kW-hr than renewables and their cost per kW-hr is dropping every day! If we are to spend our money on something, let it be renewables and simply use govt mandate to crank up production of solar panels and wind turbines to a war-time kind of footing. Third, the time required to build the 30 thousand some reactors we would need to eliminate carbon fueled power, it is estimated, would take 60 years to develop it, train enough people to run them, which is a HUGE current deficit, and then build and start the reactors. Too late to prevent the worst of global warming or keep us from climate tipping points. In the same time or much LESS we could build 4 times the renewables, which is a technology we know how to use and is far cheaper. As for Australia, you have more solar than does the sahara!!
