Felicia: Yes, it's a scam in the USA. Oil changes are overpriced and more garages make a lot on them, so their trade organizations promote those frequent changes. Used to be people did their own and bought oil and filter at the auto parts store. Probably the same in Germany. People doing it themselves don't do it as often, and you really don't need to. Some guys replace only the filter and add some oil additives. Modern cars are so complicated that people have become afraid of even learning to do this basic maintenance, so they run to the shop every time there's a light go on. But really oil changes are as easy as they ever were. In these days of single women everywhere, they haven't learned to maintain their cars, and without a man it doesn't get done at all, resulting in horrible short lives for their engines. It's a lot like women's shoes, much more expensive just because they can get away with it. Women get cheated by garages and used car people much more than men.
