  1. I'm a physicist. The REASON they're ALWAYS 1500 Watts is because the power receptacles are current LIMITED to 15 Amps by the breaker using 120 VAC power. Convection is SLOW, the fan is about 25 Watts. The fan is to prevent the element from glowing and damaging itself over time. All heaters do the same thing, but the more expensive ones don't break as fast. Most have three settings, Low (600 Watts), Medium (900 Watts), and High (1500 Watts) which is accomplished by two elements, a 600 W and a 900 W, and using both together are 1500 W. Yes, they are LYING!! This is called puffery. It is not illegal, just dishonest. BTUs are the heat needed to raise the temperature of a pound of water one degreee F. A BTU is 0.293 W-hrs.
