  1. Would you just advise sticking to US indices? You can lose but there's historically been a good chance (almost guaranteed) of making it back. I made the exact same mistakes as you did, with the exact same news sources, investments, and mentality. Though I only lost 1/7th of what you did, still quite painful. I never made over 90k in salary and I'm in Canada where taxes are high.
