Amazing video! Yeah, as a data analyst I climbed from 60k to 90k in about 7-8 years. But I worked for gov that had a better work/life balance at the cost of lower pay. I'm switching to developer or cybersecurity if developer is...cognitively blocked lol...Thanks for this video, confirms I'm doing the right thing. I also considered being a financial advisor because that's my hobby/passion (which allows me the resources to be able to switch careers.) Maybe I can do that as a side gig...Another thing I got out of this video, I gotta get out of Canada and into the US of A!!!

WARNING: I would say it's not for people who want to do medicine, law, dentistry, or other post-grad programs because you will get a 3.00 GPA for every course you complete, as it's pass/fail. This is a huge caveat that warrants a thought bubble in the video as it could steer people into the wrong direction that they won't find out about until later. I'm planning on using WGU myself for a Masters degree. WGU is an amazing concept/model.

@thiagomattos3019 That's exactly what I mean. Because it is competency based, it's pass/fail, so a grad school would have to assign it a 3.00 which can be incredibly damaging to a grad/professional school app.

@nealdee1755 Yep, I would say around there, 106-110. I was in education for a brief time...Did not fit in at all, so I'm doing computer science. I'm a med school reject, but was at 85'ile on MCAT with 95'ile on the physical science sections and writing...(Canada) I'd be a Dr by now if I was American =(.

@MrsDiva1 You might be succumbing to the sunk cost fallacy there. You're not using debt to finance this masters? It won't be costing much? I don't think there's a good ROI in education, but would you want to get a B.Ed or a teachers certification? A teacher's life is very hard now, their salaries will not keep up with the inflationary onslaught and admin/parents are eroding your rights and autonomy as a teacher. It's a job with a lot of responsibility without power or respect. If it's a free ride then you'll pay in time which isn't as bad as paying in time and money. It's never too late to make a change.

I have the same political slant as you, but I don't think politics belongs in these videos. This one looks more professional than the previous. No point alienating 50 pct of the viewership from a business stanpoint.

@ShaneHummus Oh don't be sorry! I'm old (37), I wish I had all your material back in the day when I was deciding my major. I did health studies (or health sciences)...completely useless. Thanks for all the content you produce, you're saving a lot of lives.

@BradleyStickland My university had a good coop program. I did a science degree then worked in analytics. While there, I was thinking of pivoting to finance so I was thinking of writing my CFA but I didn't. I'm doing a CS degree now, you can do a quick one at WGU if you're American and don't mind a 3.00 GPA. I didn't because I want a 3.9+ GPA for better grad school options. Check out Western Governors University (at your own pace, pass/fail, cheap and can be really fast), but it won't be as good as a school with a good coop/internship program. But you need not do tech, it's just the hottest now. This is for Americans/Canadians. I would go tech/IT route now as other jobs will be obliterated, but healthcare is always good too.

@Lawlesslarry69 tuition is most definitely cheaper. I did health science, premed. Our tuition has stayed steady around 2-4k per semester over the past 20 years. US is nutty for tuition. In Quebec you can get an entire law degree for 15k lol.

Happy birthday! Look into WGU, you can finish that degree pretty quickly and cheaply and you'll have industry-relevant certs. But of course, do your research. There's a recession now, so education isn't the worst thing you can do. WGU is also online and pass/fail, so it's better if you're not a school person trying to hunt down A+, you just want to prove you're competent. Shane has done videos on this school. I'm the A+ type, it's useless lol...Just get yourself in the right place at the right time, you don't need to be a school person. One of my friends is a developer at Amazon, no degree, but he had to fight a lot harder than my friends that graduated from Canada's MIT that just walk into a FAANG at 6-figs immediately. Since you're young, if you invest early, you can retire early and get pretty damn rich just from compounding time. Look into this...It's called the FIRE movement (financial independence, retire early).

Upsetting seeing this, I was on the pre-med track with a lot of chemistry, physics, bio, but upon graduating I realized how useless these were in the job markets. I didn't make it into med school with a 3.7 cGPA and 3.86 last two year GPA (Canada.) I should have taken something easier that'd achieve the same result, or something harder but with more marketability.

They are definitely not 130 as an average (I'm sure there are many that are - physics dept. lol)...On the teacher subreddits, I see teachers in the States trying to introduce Critical Race Theory. In Ontario Canada, we had a pedo (Benjamin Levin) design our sex ed curriculum for Grade 1 kids with pretty graphic material. Some people I knew were on board because it breaks LGBT stigma - admirable goal, but at Grade 1? Thankfully it was removed after 3 years. We also had the supreme court turf a teaching qualification math test for elementary teachers =/...It was on math material up to Grade 8 =(. It was very anxiety triggering for a lot of teachers.

He has videos on this. It's high risk high reward. Not a lot of job satisfaction, definite oversaturation. You can make either very little or a helluva lot, it's extreme. In many cases, you have low earners with tons of debt. I've seen more of the latter than former, but this is Canada...

@Lawlesslarry69 I'm finishing up an Honours degree in CS. Applying to a Masters in AI and another in Stats. I may do WGU's Cybersecurity afterwards, that 3.00 GPA is irking lol...Georgia Tech's OMSCS is another option.

@Lawlesslarry69 Oh nice! Yeah I was a premed, but I had a 3.7 GPA so that held me back. That could get into med school in the States with a high MCAT and research publications like I had, so Canada doesn't have as many opportunities. I think Canada was great to grow up in because of free healthcare and cheap tuition, but job opportunities are scarce now and pay has always been lower. Our dollar is lower too. Politicians made a mess of this place, I know there's crazy stuff down there, but you can correct them in 2 years and they have term limits =/. Just saw a news report today that our life expectancy is dropping. So we have a housing crisis that's taking out young people now, lot of people are desperate now, increased food bank use. If you're retired with a home, then you're sitting pretty, but for someone trying to establish themselves, there's no hope of earning property. I'm going to head down to the States when the Masters is over. It can range from 12-26k for an entire Masters degree here, pricier than undergrad, but still very affordable. Our MBAs can go over six-figures though...that's just the market for that particular product...

@sandwichmayo4236 Try looking at the Google Cert course. But in university, you'll want to load up on statistics and light programming. I don't think school is the greatest way to learn or prepare. I did health sci lol. Yeah, we have a few extreme introverts that did not talk to anyone at all (I talked on behalf of them as the senior). What's BSEd? Like a teaching degree? Yeah, teaching can be brutal...I have one of those too lol. You can always do a Masters after, like Georgia Tech which will run you less than 10Gs and online. They have a Masters in Analytics.

Do you have projects? Like examples of analytics work you have done and insights you've pulled. I got lucky and my university coop program threw me analytics jobs. It took me almost a decade to work up to that ~95k mark, but I'm from Canada =/, so YMMV.

70-85% of millionaires are self-made. I grew up in poverty (someone got stabbed outside my window!), should hit 7 figs in a few years. SES is important, but there's still decent social mobility in North America (can't say the same about most of the world, you would be right).

@TheXenoBrosMC That's true. I was able to use French Immersion to escape the hood and head off to a rich school - where everyone's parents were engineers / businessmen / doctors / lawyers. One of my best friends from then unknowingly taught me about the concept of opportunity cost and sunk costs, that I didn't learn later until my economics electives (and the fact that I knew to take economics.)

@TheXenoBrosMC Oh I'm Canadian. I'm actually Chinese, but we had to live in the ghetto from poverty (immigrants). Though, one of my elementary school buddies got booked for arms dealing way later on after I lost touch (English stream). I think the Chinese have Confucian culture that protects us from a lot of social ills suffered by the poor in North America. We out-earn whites actually if you look at the income/salary statistics by ethnicity. In Canada, we have the French Immersion stream and English stream. Usually the rich or stronger parents will put their kids in French Immersion, so you get a better environment with less behavioural issues that can derail the class. Slower or problem students don't survive having the entire day in French and having to manage 2 languages. But the program also allowed you to jump districts because you won't find French Immersion programs too often in the ghetto, if you do, it's so the school can get additional funding or more diversity in (bringing in higher income kids). I was from the poor side. French Immersion students have 20% higher standardized test scores than standard English students. My friend anecdotally said the average French Immersion student is probably 110+. Don't know anyone that got booked from French, but I know a few millionaires from the program - docs/lawyers/engineers.
