  1. I think this is the ultimate argument for a lunar base station. Building a large telescope on the moon would allow essentially unlimited size and weight, with the majority of the properties of space (no atmosphere). Obviously that would involve a large base on the moon with manufacturing capabilities, including glass from the native rocks.
