  1. Of all the SoAm countries, I least understand Argentina. They keep recovering from the worst dictatorships and economic systems. Then they try the same thing over again.

God says "what's that?". Angel says, you have put a huge amount of land, wood, and mineral wealth into just one country!". God: "don't worry. Wait until you see the people I put there".

  3. If Colombia had stayed unified, things would have been different. Brazil was large, had all the usual authoritarian/communist issues, but is emerging as the SOAM power state simply because of its size, population, and the amount of wealth it controls. I don't think you can say that the USA succeeded initially because of those factors. It was stable, and then it acquired a lot of territory fast.

  4. I don't have any problem with liberalism as long as it stays away from socialism... I don' t have any problem with conservatism as long as it stays away from religious dogma... Darn!!!

  5. Seems like a lot of what you are talking about is the same idea as land reform from prior ages. The idea that you were born without, that the ruling class had the privileges (land), and that you were born owing something to others. The difference is now you are born white or male or both, and you need to pay a debt for oppressing others. The result is the same: pushback against the ideas that you owe anything to anyone. You didn't participate in oppressing blacks, women, etc, and don't feel like paying that "debt".
