So this video series came out just before covid. That put a new light on everything.

The shirtwaist fire is why you see doors marked "Alarm will sound". Backdoor theft was still an issue, and requiring rear doors that opened from the inside still enabled that. So the compromise was to alarm the door so that opening was still possible, but sets off the alarm. There are still occasional back door thefts even with this system.

I read Tarbel's book. She was a true heroin of the day. When the refineries started, they were crude affairs where the oil was heated in large vessels. Being flammable, a refinery catching fire was common. The refineries that refused to sell to Rockefeller would suspiciously catch fire.

Its exactly the random vs. strategy element that makes the games so different and generates fights. Sorry is popular because it has virtually no strategy, relying on the luck of the draw. The result is that even small children can win. Monopoly has too much strategy, and every family I know of that played it fights over it.

So what happened to by mongi? Did they kill them off? Did they get a bigger predator to kill them off? Did they start singing "I don't know why I swallowed that fly...". Seriously the biggest pest on Kauai is.... those dammed chickens. They are friggin' everywhere. They should open up a Coronel Sander's on every single corner.

I disagree. Imagine if the cotton gin had not been invented. The huge amount of manual labor in cotton making would have kept the pressure for maintaining slavery on. It wasn't just the fact of the manual labor. Having it done by slaves allowed the consumers of cotton, including the "enlightened north" to ignore the problems created by its production, since it was done by "that other race".
